Carancho Trailer 2010 HD Pablo Trapero – Argentina’s 2011 Academy Award Selection

The first Carancho movie trailer (2010) has just been released online and in HD via Yahoo movies. The full poster for the Pablo Trapero film premiered just days ago over at Cinematical.

Carancho is an Academy Award hopeful, as it’s Argentina’s official selection for “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Oscars this year.

The movie is directed by Argentina born filmmaker Pablo Trapero, who has been nominated multiple times for Argentina’s equivelent of an Acadaemy Award, the Golden Palm at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival for “Lion’s Den”, and won the ‘Cult Network Italia’ Prize and “Anicaflash Prize” Awards at the Veince Film Festival in 1999 for Crane World.

Starring Ricardo Darín and Martina Gusman, Crancho is a film-noir thriller that is set in Argentina, where more than 8,000 people die in traffic acidents each year, and these tragedies are a flourishing industry founded on insurance payouts and legal loopholes.

Sosa (Darin) is a lawyer who scourers hospitals and police stations in search for possible clients, and Luján (Gusman) is a young doctor who meets Sosa on the streets. The movie contains a love story, but their lives and wants become conflicted, which you can slightly grasp from the trailer.

Carancho made the festival circuit rounds earlier this year, playing at both the Cannes Film Festival as well as The Toronto International Film festival.

The trailer for Crancho starts off relatively slow, but continues to build momentum throughout, and before rapidly picking up pace towards the end, and proceeding to make one wonder what might  the film’s conclusion might be.

Carancho’s United States release date has been set for February 11th, 2011, when Strand will give it a limited theatrical debut.
