Daily News ‘Hometown Heroes in Education’ awards: Official rules
The Daily News will present the Hometown Heroes in Education awards to showcase the New York City educators who display generosity, compassion, dedication, selflessness and ingenuity.
The top nominees ("Hometown Heroes") will be honored at a breakfast on or about October 5, 2017, and will be included in a special section about the Hometown Heroes in the Daily News newspaper, also on or about October 5, 2017.
Nominees must be or have been working as a New York City public, private or parochial school teacher, principal, paraprofessional or other educator between August 1, 2016, and July 28, 2017.
Employees and immediate family or those living in the same household as employees of Daily News, L.P. are ineligible to nominate or be nominated.

Nomination must include the nominator’s contact information (including name and an e-mail address or phone number), the name of the educator being nominated, the nominee’s position and school, and a brief description of why the nominee deserves an award.
Nomination must be received by 11:59 pm on July 28, 2017.
No purchase is necessary to participate.
No methods of nomination other than the methods specifically described herein will be accepted. Daily News is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged, illegible or incomplete nominations or unsuccessful attempts to submit a nomination. Incomplete nominations and/or nominations not received by the deadline will not be eligible.
USE OF NOMINATIONS
All nominations become the property of the Daily News and will not be returned.
Nominations may be published in the print and online editions of the Daily News and/or elsewhere.
By submitting a nomination, nominator gives the Daily News a worldwide, perpetual, transferable, non-revocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish, display and use the nomination, including nominator’s name, for any purpose, in any media and format, including editorial, advertising and promotional purposes without additional notice, approval, consent, compensation or attribution.
JUDGING AND GROUND RULES
A panel of judges selected by the Daily News, who may include one or more judges from the Department of Education, the United Federation of Teachers, the New York City Parents Union and the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, will select the top nominees to be named Hometown Heroes.
Participation in the Hometown Heroes section in the Daily News newspaper constitutes permission for the Daily News to use each Hometown Hero’s name, photographs and other likenesses for any purpose, including without limitation editorial, advertising or promotional purposes, without additional notice, approval, consent or compensation, to the full extent permitted by law.
Hometown Heroes will be included in a special section of the Daily News newspaper and will be honored at a special breakfast, both on or about October 5, 2017.
No substitution of awards is permitted by Hometown Heroes.
Awards (or any portion of an award) are subject to availability. The Daily News reserves the right to substitute award(s) of equal or greater value if any award (or any portion of an award) is unavailable.
Hometown Heroes are responsible for any applicable federal, state and local taxes and for any incidental costs not included in the award description.
All decisions of the judges and of the Daily News are final.
No delay or failure on the part of the Daily News to enforce any provision of these Official Rules or any other right shall constitute a waiver.
By submitting a nomination, each nominator agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and by the Daily News’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the awards.
Daily News and its agents, affiliates, subsidiaries, representatives, service providers or award providers may use nominator’s and/or nominee’s personal information submitted with nomination for purposes of award fulfillment and/or for marketing, such as to notify nominators and/or nominees of a product or promotion that may be of interest to them. By submitting a nomination or accepting designation as a Hometown Hero, nominator and nominee consent to such use of their personal information.
New York law governs this competition without regard to any principles of conflict of laws. The competition is void where prohibited and outside the State of New York and is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
If, for any reason, the competition is not capable of running as planned due to, without limitation, errors in these rules or advertising for the competition, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, human error or any other cause that, in the sole judgment of the Daily News, could corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition, the Daily News reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition or any part of it.
By submitting a nomination or accepting designation as a Hometown Hero, nominators and nominees agree at all times to defend, indemnify, release and hold harmless the Daily News and its parent companies, promotional licensees, award providers, agencies, affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, owners, employees, representatives and agents (collectively, the "Released Parties"), from and against any and all claims, actions, liabilities, or damages of any kind resulting directly or indirectly from any and all activity related to entering and/or participating in these awards or from the acceptance or use of any award. The Released Parties (i) make no warranty, guaranty or representation of any kind concerning any award (or any portion thereof), (ii) disclaim any implied warranty and (iii) will not be responsible for adverse weather conditions, acts of God, acts of terrorism, civil disturbances, work stoppages or any other events outside of their control that may affect the Hometown Heroes’ ability to use the awards (or any portion thereof).
A list of winners will be printed in a section about the Hometown Heroes in the Daily News newspaper.
